Kara Gasperone, LMFT

Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist

Board Certified Clinical Supervisor

Meet my assistant: Cricket, the Rocky Point rescue!

Hi! I’m Kara! I bring more than a decade of therapy experience to the party and I’m excited to support you.

I’m humbled to be at the helm of this practice where my goal is to provide a healing safe space for folks from all walks of life. After giving years of service to the non-profit therapy world, I quit all my jobs to start this business in December 2020 after going through some tremendous growth and transformation of my own. I’m here to offer you support as not only a therapist, but a Real Live Person - here at New Sun, we pride ourselves on bringing our education and expertise to the therapy space but also a human experience focused on connection.

A bit about my professional experience - I’ve been a therapist since 2010, graduating with both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Arizona State University (go Devils!). I am trained in EMDR and have worked extensively with trauma. I use a systemic approach (this means we’ll talk a lot about your important relationships) to treating individuals, partners, and families – including LGBTQIA+ individuals & families, blended families, and foster and adoptive families, as well as those that have been affected by addiction. I am a gender- and sexuality-affirming provider and am happy to support those in non-monogamous partnerships.

I will help you explore how some of your past experiences and relationships may be related to current challenges. I use a trauma-informed and "big picture" perspective to see you as a whole person. While we will discuss your diagnosis and symptoms, you will not be identified by those. My approach is laid-back, humorous, & warm. I believe comfort with your therapist is the main indicator of success in treatment. My default approach will be relaxed and collaborative, but if you want directness, homework assignments, or highly structured sessions - can do! Just let me know. I am always open to your feedback and willing to pivot to meet your needs most effectively. I look forward to working with you!

In 2024, I joined a council called ASU Emerging Leaders to lend my career experience and professional expertise to the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences at Arizona State University. I look forward to being an accessible mentor to students interested in having a career as a therapist! Click here for more info.

On a personal note - I’m a Phoenix native with a passion for exploring new places and trying new food and drinks. When I’m not in the therapy office, you can find me traveling, playing my Nintendo Switch (Mario Odyssey is my current fixation), listening to podcasts or audiobooks, watching live music, or spending time at the gym or in nature. I’m always rocking a pretty weird playlist!

As of May 2024 I am not taking new clients as my schedule is full. Please check back here because I do update this space when I have availability!
